Ford escort diesel engine timing diagram

Could you please kindly explain the timing set up procedure (with diagram to indentify marks etc) to put a new cam belt on a 1.8 ltr Ford Escort diesel engine? There is no belt on at present to mark.

There's a lot of people on here who are willing to help but your problem is to complicated to put on here, one little mistake and you could damage your engine.

Best bet is to get a Haynes manual to explain it, they are cheaper from ebay than halfords.

there is a timing locking pin kit available for the 1.8 diesel. most motor shops sell this which includes a kit also for the 2.5di transit engine. ps i would change the fuel pump belt also. ( all comes in one kit) gates do this kit.

oh and if the belt were to go on these it usually results in a snapped camshaft.

Thanks very much, cam is OK, water pump siezed which caused belt to snap. I also have two other 'spare' engines if parts are required. Looks like I will have to buy a haynes manual then.
