If you want something to keep you interested but thats not too heavy I would recommend Easy ways to make a living or "A starter for ten" is really good.
Finally why don't you read an old classic? I've just read catcher in the rye for the millionth time.
One of my favourite nonfiction books is The Making of the Atomic Bomb by Richard Rhodes. Darn good read, and bestseller wise anything by Robert Ludlum usually involves secret organisations, aging nazis and uberassassins who are rubbish at killing the main protagonists and knocks Dan Browns stuff into a cocked hat. As for a Police book, I find Graham Taylor entertaining.
police thriller - ' The big nowhere' James Ellroy
'A stained white radiance' James Lee Burke
'No Beast so fierce' Edward Bunker.
Fiction - 'Carter beats the devil' (sorry cannot remember the author - stunning book though
J G Ballard 'complete short stories' - complete genius
non fiction - 'Garrincha' - the triumph and tragedy of Brazil's footballing hero...top notch.
