I am taking a group of elderly people on holiday. We hope to fly into Glasgow Airport and the take the train to Largs. Can anyone tell me if they would have far to walk from where they collect their luggage to where they board the train? Some of them are not terribly fit which is why I need to know.

Although you can buy a rail ticket to or from 'Glasgow Airport', there's no actual rail station at the airport. The relevant train station is actually Paisley Gilmour Street (which is 1 mile from the airport). To get there, you need to take a bus from Bay 1:

According to the map, here,

the bus stops are directly opposite the baggage reclaim area for domestic arrivals (so the walk should be quite short). The international arrivals baggage reclaim area is at the far end of the terminal so, if your party are coming from overseas, they'd have to walk past all of the check-in desks to get to the bus.

Since the attempted bombing in July security has tightened up and you might need to go a few yards further to get to the bus, but should still be reasonable. Hope you enjoy Largs very geared towards older people.
Agree with previous answers but have you considered taxis/minibus. Depending on number in party could work out quite economical. Please respond if you want more info.

Thanks Gef
There would be 5-6 of us plus luggage of course. Would you have any idea of cost of taxis and would we have to book in advance?
I've just been reviewing the posts I've contributed to during the past month and spotted that you've posted a further query. I hope that this reply isn't too late:

Unless you're prepared to get your group to walk to the pick-up points for private hire companies (in car parks 1 & 3), you'll have to use one of Glasgow Airport's authorised taxi firms. (They're the only cabs which are allowed to pick up from the rank at the front of the terminal). You can get a quote (and information about booking, if required) by contacting Cabfly (which is the taxi management company for Glasgow Airport, rather than a taxi operator) on 0141 848 4588.

Alternatively, contact the main company which is authorised to use the pick-up point at the front of the terminal. For their details, including a map which shows how close the taxi pick-up point is to domestic arrivals, click here:
