Walking around London - how far?

Going to London tomorrow for a few days and staying Maida Vale. Husband has suggested we could walk there, going through Regents Park (after getting off at Kings Cross). According to the A-Z it looks around 3 miles (ish). Any ideas how long this might take? Don't mind walking at all (and stopping off at a pub on the way!) but if its just too far then I'll make him change his mind!!

Google says by road it is 3.8 miles, so a bit less if you take the more direct route through Regents Park.

It woulsd take an hour or just over at normal walking pace.

Kings Cross does (or did) have a bit of an unsavoury reputation and I would be carefull where you walk round there.

If you walk down Euston Road to about Warren Street and then cut across to Regents park you should be OK.

Mind you the cold wind might howl across the park and it could be very cold.

So you could get a black cab to Maida Vale which should not be too expensive.

You can then save your walking feet to walk round the parts of London you want to see.

King's Cross has been cleaned up a lot, especially since Eurostar started to go there. I wouldn't walk there in the middle of the night, but I wouldn't do that any place much in London or any other big city. During daytime it would be a pleasant walk - but a chilly one at this time of year; Regent's Park is wide open. And of course you may have luggage to carry.

Well Kings Cross is at one end of Euston Road and Regents Park is at the other...reckon the walk from Kings Cross to the actual park entrance will take approximately 25 mins at a reasonable pace. However, Euston Road isn't the most pleasant road to mosey along, it's like a big busy dual carriage way with nothing really on it. And then you have to actually walk through Regents Park which could be a trek. Especially if you're not 100% sure where you're going. Treat yourself to a taxi, it's Christmas!! Even the tube won't take long. It will be freezing to walk it!

I hope you are not going to have to walk with suitcases ? just for once why not treat yourself to a London taxi whilst you get your bearings ?

Depending on what part of Maida Vale you are staying you could get the tube. Kings Cross to Baker Street on the Circle or Metropolitan line, then Baker St to Warwick Avenue or Maida Vale on the Bakerloo line.

If you're not carrying much luggage, come out of the station onto York Way. Go up there and just after a set of traffic lights the road passes over the Grand Union Canal.

Go down on to the towpath and walk with the water on your left. It'll take you through Camden Town, you can stop at Camden Market for a beer, and into Regent's Park, past London Zoo and more or less all the way to Maida Vale.

You'd best come off the canal at the end of the park, go past Lord's cricket ground along St John's Wood Road and there you are. It'll take about an hour and a half walking. And for much of it you won't realise you're in London. Take an A to Z in case you get lost.

I worked in King's Cross until just a couple of years ago and would do this walk quite often as far as Camden on my way home. I do the bit through the park every time I go to Lord's, it's a really pleasant bit of unkown London.
