Americam Poll on left-hand side

Dear AB Ed
Can we please get rid of the predominately american poll that appears on the left hand side of the screen, as this is mainly a British site who cares if US cities have WiFi access, or what Oprah's relationship with Barack Obama is! The latest I have seen is the worst - 'What are you doing for New Year's?' which begs the answer 'What am I doing for New Year's WHAT'.

Do what I do - stick some random answer in to stuff it up. AB probably gets paid with stuff like this - what would you suggest to replace it?

While I realise AB is supported by advertising, perhaps an advert more suited to a UK audience would generate more revenue for them instead of, "Who is at fault for the federal government's poor performance" and so on.

any ad is worth having, as apart from the Google ones there aren't many around. If you don't like them, look away now... but don't ditch them; AB can't run on fresh air.

We all realise that adverts contribute to the running of this site so why don't they place relevant adverts which people may just use instead of this meaningless American rubbish.

I ignore all the adverts on AB (sorry advertisers) so the american poll does not bother me at all..

Lucy, the art of selling advertising isn't to sell relevant ads. It's to sell any ads at all. If the advertisers conclude their ads are generating no traffic they will pull them.

I have no idea how they do it, but I get quite a few Canadian advertisements on here. How does that work? How do they know where I live?...........the advertisers I mean.

Well I'm stumped at tonights poll asking me if I am going to over eat on Thanksgiving day! I don't think American polls/surveys should be where they are at all - stuff them somewhere that can be opened and accessed if we want.
