Receiving gifts
16 Answers
Do you know anyone who sucks at receiving gifts? If I get something rubbish, I still lie through my teeth about how good it is and am very grateful to the giver. My god, they have gone to the trouble of getting it for me, and thought it was a good choice. How rude is it to not even react, or (Following may upset some readers), slag it off there and then or (this happened to me twice by the same person) they just leave it where you gave it to them, and never retrieve it.
If someone did this to you, would it change your choice of gift for them the next time round? Coal perhaps?

I would be offended if someone acted in the way that you describe, next time, donate your money to charity and give them a card telling them that you haved done so.

just get them a voucher next time, I tend not to waste my thought and effort on people who dont like anything that I buy for them, either I dont know them well enough and Im buying the wrong stuff (doubtful as I put a lof of research into what the person likes during the year) or that they just dont like me so anything will be given the rolled eyes expression.
I was caught out by some other business and had to delay buying some presents until Xmas eve. This person attacked me over leaving things so late, and suspected me of buying their gift at the last minute. It was really nice though and took about 1 1/2 hours to pick, along with another present for about 40 (delayed birthday present, I hadn't seen them in ages), which was also left with me. Hmph. I think I'll find it very hard to fork out another 85 or my hard earned cash for someone that will use my present to make a point..........
Hi meredith - Thats a good question because I dont like receiving presents & in the past hid it like you did. I am not sure what you are going to think about this but I now dont accept gifts at all because I felt so hypocritical about it all.
At christmas and birthdays I tell my family not to buy for me (although I havent really told them why).

I find giving and receiving gifts make birthdays and xmas feel special, but I do question the 'value for money' (in a non scrooge like way). You are spending a lot on something somebody could well neither want nor like, to be given the same. So......if someone I know said 'let's abandon presents this year, or do the Oxfam buy-a-loo thing, I wouldn't be too bothered. Or a cap.'
