Exercise for Arthritic Hip
4 Answers
I've just been diagnosed with arthritis in my right hip. I work as a dog walker so I'm quite active but I really want to do extra exercise to help me lose weight quicker and strengthen my hip joint. The doc did say that the more exercise I do the worse the pain will become so its a bit of a vicious circle.
I'd like to join a local gym mainly for the swimming pool but can anyone suggest other gym work that would be beneficial without causing too much strain?
Thanks in advance Elaine

If you find a good instructor they will always check your health first and just take you as far as you can go. My cousin was practically an invalid due to back problems and reckons pilates has transformed her life (previously, she couldn't put her hands past her knees when she bent over - now she can put them flat on the floor for the first time in her life). I do it too (just a local council-run class) and have found it increases your flexibility and muscle strength (and tones you up really well) without putting strain on your joints. Good luck!
