It's something to do with the Goldberg Variations. His signature was a kind of equation. BACH= but I can't remember and someone's ringing my doorbell now!!

Thanks to you both.
I thought Part had done that and the Bach one is also logical, but presumably it was the German alphabet. I am not a linguist -- is it the same as the present UK one?
