Sending, recieving, and giving Christmas Cards

This follows Redheads post below.
Okay, as most of you know, I and my family are Jewish, however, we have over a hundred cards, some jokey, some just seasons greetings, and some religious, depicting the virgin birth, and others similar.
Thing is, we are always happy to send and recieve Christmas cards, because to my way of thinking, it shows that someone has thought of you, and thats nice.
I'd like to know, what other ABers think of this tradition.

I have sent cards to and received cards from people of all the major faiths - Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish, and one card from a Buddhist and a few Rastafarians.
It is lovely that this time of year is recognised as being a special time for everyone in the UK - a time for goodwill and celebration of winter and friendship, if not Christ's birth.
In the past I have taken friends of other faiths to Midnight Mass and they have thoroughly enjoyed it. Just as I have been to celebrations in temples and mosques and been welcomed.

I certainly don't want to sound cynical, but sometimes I feel we buy cards, gifts etc because everyone else is doing it.
Christmas is a magical time for children, can be a very happy time for some families, but it can also bring a lot of sadness to other people.
I think it is a pity that a lot of people do not show the same caring or love all the rest of the year that we do at Christmas.
I sat with someone today. That person has a family but they were not spending Christmas with their Mum.
She was alone, apart from my visit.
To me, that sort of sums it up in a nutshell.
Glad to say, that person is one of the very few who spent Christmas alone.
Hubby and I have so many cards as usual. Some from people who are there for us in a crisis, others we never see or hear from one day to the next.
As the song goes "I wish it could be Christmas everyday"

Thats one way of looking at it, must say, it is good to look at the cards. gives a warm feeling.

Thats wonderful, I also have some cards from other faiths, I think it shows a willingness to co-operate between religions.

I fully understand your point, and it is true, that in a lot of cases some only send a card becaues they've been sent one, same for presents,
But I think its the person themselves that count, yourself. eg, I don't worry what other people think, so long as I mean it when I give, or say thanks, to me, thats what counts, how you yourself feel.
I appreciate what you say about about the woman who was alone, all we can do in those cicumstances is, as you so wonderfully did, visit, and do what you can.
