the following ads by google came up:

crossword puzzle
the sun-sports news
puzzles

do ab use the same adverts for everyone (if they happen to click on the same question) or is just your own personal individual links that come up?

yes they do, it is magic, if the question is about camels you would get ads for egypt trust me!

It's called google adsense. Google tries to display adverts relevant to the page you are looking at rather than random viagra, casino sites.

The advertisements seem to magically try to blend in with the question, as dot already said. However, what really puzzles me is that I very often get Canadian ads on the right hand side...that's where I live. If you live in a particular part of the UK do you get ads appearing which are specific to your locale?

just for a joke i will type a meaningless question/word and see if links come up, i might type in beachball or something and see what comes up, i might need to start a new thread to do this though.

so i wonder if the same ads come up for everyone who is clicking on the same question,say my beachball word for instance or if individual tailor made adverts pop up?

still no clearer on if the same adverts are used for the one question for everybody/anybody who happens to click on that question?

sorry about the link if you go onto guardian newspaper site, then see when google released this information, think print date for the newspaper was december 3rd 2007,

just general info on/for search engines really.
