Clues are given in groups and the first letter of each answer in a group should re-arrange in to the surname of an author. I can't get that to work for two of the groups.
Here are the clues and the answers I have got.
Author b
Dent's classic series - Temple
The creator of Holly Golightly - Capote
Publisher of the Strand Magazine - Newnes
Eliot's town in Loamshire - Middlemarch
Creator of the Helliconia novels - Aldiss
Mary, the mother of Frankenstein's author - Wollstonecraft
That gives me six letters and only one vowel, which can't be right. Where have I gone wrong and who is the author?

Author J
Beastly humans in Gulliver's travels - Yahoos
Creater of Sally Bowles - Isherwood
Lover of Hero - Leander or Claudio if it's the Shakespear one
Tony in she stoops to conquer - Lumpkin
Johnson's fox - Kitsune
Pip's first love - Estella.
These might be right, but I still can't find the author. Any ideas?

Dent's classic series is Everyman (Books) which therefore gives an E which may be rearranged to give McEwan
Johnson's fox is Volpone
..........which will give (Penelope) Lively
Don't know if this helps, but I think Dent's classic series is Everyman. Sounds an interesting (difficult!) quiz - where is it available?

Thank you for your help. Quiz is Chesterfield (Derbyshire) based I think. I got it from the Oxfam shop in Chesterfield town centre. May only be local to Chesterfield. you could try phoning 01246 550556 and see if they are willing to post them out. Entries must be in by 31st January.
Question Author
Additional information. Solving the first sets of clues and finding the authors is only the start. Then you get a set of 5 cryptic clues for each author, the answers being titles of books they have written. Very difficult!
