X-Box 360 HD DVD player

Is the X-Box 360 add-on HD-DVD player the same as any other HD DVD player?, are there any dis-advantages or advantages over normal HD DVD players? Would anyone recomend it? Thanks alot!

there are two HD dvd formats. Blue Ray is owned and marketed by sony, hence its inclusion within the play station 3.

HD is the other format.

The xbox 360 add on hd dvd player used this second format and in all respects is a standard HD dvd player.

However, and i say this as a huge 360 fan, there has been some criticism that the 360 HD dvd player can be a bit jumpy especially during fast action sequences. This is apparently more noticeable on a larger screen but I haven't seen this myself only have other work for it.

I have a full 1080p HD 42" LCD TV, so should I get a X-Box ad-on HD-DVD player, for around �100, or a conventional HD-DVD player for �250? why is one �150 more than the other?

I have to say that i have not tested the xbox hd dvd so my comments on the jumpyness are from others who have.

I have seen a stand alone hd player in action and was impressed.

i think i would try to find a shop that might have one set up that you can look at before making a decision.

Mainly because the one which connects to the 360 only has limited components as most of the hardware/software needed to play and display it is already contained in the 360 itself.

one plus is you can buy hd movies from any country with hd dvd play back.

A big draw back for a audio fan like me, no dts support (yet)
