Other carriers use different procedures. Singapore Airlines has introduced corpse cupboards on its Airbus 340-500 aircraft. Cabin crews use the locker if there is no empty row of seats to place a corpse.

If they are sat next to a sleeping passenger or airline employee and the journey is not too long (so rigour mortis sets in) they may be left. If it is a longer journey they may pretend the passenger is 'just ill' i and so make a fuss of moving them to a different cabin. I travel in the premium cabin and would rather have a natural causes stiff near me than the people who look like they have plague or ebola that they move ... it is the only time I feel seriously un public spirited - you don't pay six grand to have a sick git coughing their guts up next to you. I wish there was a designated medical room for sick coughing feverish passengers.

I knew an American oilman en route Amsterdam/Dubai who was next to a passenger that died, they had been drinking together and the man just fell asleep but kept leaning on his shoulder, took a while to realise what had happened. He got up went to the front of the plane and asked to see the pilot----- the air hostesses thought it was a high jack and all put their hands in the air !!! hell no he said theres a man back there "dead as a mackerel", pilot said go back and I will come and pretend I know you and come and talk and see, the plane was full so they strapped the guy in his seat and left him, the oil guy was offered 2 free 1st class tickets to any destination that the airline flew to if he would return to his seat next to the dead guy-- he said yes, when he got off the plane in Dubai and the plane was going on to the Far East, the dead man was still sitting there.True story.
this happened on a flight to tenerife that my father in law was on, the guy died about an hour into the flight, there was a doctor on board and the dead guy was strapped to his seat by the advice of the doctor for the rest of the journey where the plane was met by all the relevant services, sat besides the dead person were his wife and daughter, who were devastated.
a friend of mine worked cabin crew and confirmed that when someone died on his flight (it hadn't been noticed for quite a while so the decision not to try and resus was made) they covered him up with a blanket and pretended he was asleep - they moved the guy sitting next to him and asked him not to mention it to the other passengers.
