cat vacinations

We have a new kitty whose only had his first set of shots.  I'd like to do the vacinations myself, but am unsure what he needs & when.  Any idea where I can get the info?

I've never personally heard of anyone doing the shots themselves. Are you a vet? Also, what do you mean he's only had his first set? Mine only had 2 I think and then goes for boosters. Maybe I don't understand properly.

I don't want to appear rude but surely even if you knew how to do the shots, how would you get the vaccines? Like all prescribed medications, I would think they are only available to quailified vets

You could do the vaccinations yourself if u find a vet clinic that will prescribe the right dose..etc. normally vets do not allow this because mistakes can be made, i preffer to get it done at the vet despite the money it costs..only because they are trained and certified and if anything went wrong by chance allergic reactions..etc. the vet would know what to do to help the animal in that circumstance.

yes..you absolutely can give vaccines yourself. At least here in the US. You can purchase them at any feed store that deals with farm animals and ask for the Kitten vaccine. You will not however be able to administer rabies or leukemia yourself and I am sure that you would take your cat in for those as needed. My vet actually taught me how to do it myself and it is quite easy. Obviously anyone who does this would have enough brain cells to know to take your animal in the the vet on an emergency basis in the event that a reaction occured. But come on! How many people out there has a vet who makes them sit around with their pet for 30 minutes or so after giving a vaccine?? I have never had it happen!!! Vaccines come pre measured in the syringe....there is NO correct dose to figure out. They come ready to go and they are the same brand your vet would use.

I say good for you for taking the time to educate yourself and taking a pro active approach to your pets health! I am sure you will be fine!!

I don't think its right that you can give your animals vaccines yourself.  If you give too much it can be toxic. and if you give too little, the viruses can just become immune to the vaccine.  I think a vet is the best idea.
