Getting thirsty at night
6 Answers
This week i have been getting so thirsty in the middle of the night. I usually drink a pint of water before I go to bed and take another one with me to have as soon as I wake up in the morning, but this week I have been waking up every hour and getting through two pints between falling asleep and getting up in the morning. I haven't changed my diet nor have we had the heating on through the night. I even keep the window open an inch for cool air so it's not that the air is dry.
Any ideas?

Please make an appointment with your doctor. There may be other reasons for this - possibly having more salt than usual - but excessive thirst (and tiredness) are usually the first signs people have when they develop diabetes.
It may be something simple but really not worth leaving it, and at least you can put your mind at rest (and get a good nights sleep!).

how are you doing matt? Did you manage to make an appointment with the doc? If not, just wanted to let you know that you can get a simple blood sugar test done at your local pharmacy. I know Lloyds do it and possibly Boots, plus it's free!!
It may be nothing, but as the others have said excessive thirst is often the first sign of diabetes - the best thing to do is get it checked asap and then you can put your mind at rest. The test won't take a minute, it's a simple prick of the finger and a tiny sample of blood is taken. And you get the results in about 30 seconds so no waiting and no stress.
Your pharmacist will be able to advise you on what to do based on the result but if its normal I would urge you to make an appointment with your GP anyway to rule out anything serious.
Good Luck!
