screen keeps freezing on laptop

hi, wondered if any one could shed any light on my problem, I have an Acer Aspire 5520,
when i'm playing solitaire, (or any of the games) the screen keeps freezing up, even does this when i'm on here, or on the net, i've reset all the programmes, done everything i can think of but it still keeps happening, I actually won this laptop in a competition so cannot send it back , have sent numerous emails to the manufacturer who just suggested resetting the programmes !
has anyone any idea why this keeps happening, would be gratefull for any advice.

Could be several causes. What Firewall and anti-virus are you using?

Have a look in your task manager - how many applications are running, and more importantly, how many processes are running?

had mackafee on first, have changed it over to norton, will have a look in task manager as you suggest, thanks ethel.

I would suggest Norton could be the culprit - it is a well known resource hogger.
