This is supposed to be a comedy, isn't it? I sit through it without even a half-smile. But then I usually do with Jennifer Saunders' material. Can anyone out there explain what is funny or even remotely good about it?

it is subtle, the script is excellent and the comic timing is excellent. the characters are almost carttoon like and I like the way it mimics the soaps
I can't believe this got another series. It's rank rotten.
There is nothing funny about this programme.

The BBC think that everything involving French & Saunders is brilliant but it's not. They are not funny.

Hopefully the viewing figures will be poor and then it won't get commissioned for another series.

Meanwhile, watch another channel.

It is 2 / 2 here cos I am with dot. I find it funny in a gentle yet bizarre way as some of the characters are realy rather warped ( but harmless!) It is an exageration of westcountry village life.....or even city life-I see people like that every day down here! lol
I watched it tonight because quite frankly there are a lack of shows that include people that talk like me. I caught one episode before which had an amusing joke in it so I thought I would give it another go, I don't think its meant to be hilarious, it's friday night viewing for fogies, the other channels cater to a different age group on a friday night.

I actually think Dawn French's charater in it is bloody brilliant.
I'm with Pickle...a great cast wasted. I'm surprised there's new series.
french & saunders are not funny in any way at all.. just cringingly embarrassing as are most female comedians
Yeah-don't try anythinK new like- Let's 'ave wall to wall Eastenders. It's got 10,000,000 viewers ain't it ?
Popular innit ?
Any time you hear the phrase 'subtle' or 'gentle' used for a comedy, it normally means 'not very funny' (see Last of the Summer Wine or As Time Goes By for further evidence - IMHO of course).

I don't like Jam and Jerusalem either. Even my slightly disturbing Sally Phillips fixation can't persuade me to bother watching it. As for Eastenders, I don't watch that either!
