Apply a heat defence spray to your hair before you dry it (like Tresemme), then you can use your straighteners once your hair is dry.
Although the spray does give some protection, in my opinion it cant give it 100% protection against heat damage and my hairdresser has told me only to use my straighteners a couple of times a week.
I can't though, I have to use them every day, cos once youve started using them, you can't stop. Its now part of my regular styling routine every day. Just make sure you take regular trips to the hair salon to keep your hair in good condition and expect some damage and split ends from using the straighteners.
Hope this helps.
thankyou gaynorvj! although i couldn't wait, and used them on my damp hair!!! perhaps just once won't do too much harm?? iread an ad where the person said that her hair "steamed" and that that was great, so i automatically thought that that was on wet hair!! anyway it looks fantastic!! i think i'll be using them everyday too! do you know how to clean them if they get dirty, do certain products harm ceramic? thanks again
Hi again.
They do sell straighteners with steam, but I think you can't go wrong with ceramic straighteners anyway. The slower you move the straigteners down each section, the straighter the hair will be, but then then again the more damage is done the longer the straighteners are left on the hair. But wot about curling tongs, I don't use them now, but when I did you had to keep them in the curl position for a while to create the look, and it's not done my hair any bad visible damage over time.
They say using too many hot styling products on our hair is not good for it, but hey, as long as we get the look, who cares, ha ha.
Another styling product I use (and beleive me I've tried lots) is garnier fructis sleek and shine serum (its in a green round bottle). It is excellent. Just rub some in your palms and smooth the ends of the hair before drying. After you have dried your hair and used your straighteners, rub a little more between the palms and smooth the ends again and pat all over your straightener hair. It really is good stuff. Then finish with a shine spray to complete the look. It stays straight all day.
With regards cleaning the straighteners, I find that by using all the styling products on my hair they seem to build up around the edges into a thick scum. I just wipe it down with a piece of damp kitchen roll and then dry with the another piece (while they are cold).
Sorry to waffle, but when I find something good I wanna share it with the world.
Take care.
