6 Answers
I have just bought an ipod 40gb 4th gen and the battery length for this is ment to be around 12 hours. In reality the battery lasts no where near this! I have had it fully charged and it has run out in less than 6! Does it wear down wen it is turned off?? Any help appreciated

For things digital SONY is king when it comes to battery life (sony's machines are designed for low battery consumption) .... always something to consider when u buy .....ur best bet is to use rechargable batteries....rechargable up to 1000 times....recharge time varies 1hour- 10 hours....shorter is more expensive.....if ur unit takes 2 buy 6rechargables ....if u leave recharables in ur unit (i've heard) that they will discharge themselves ....so if ur going to leave them in it for a long time with out using them bewarned...... good luck....
There is a welll known issue about iPod's battery life. Head over to;

I have the same model as you, and although the battery indicator on the screen depletes rather quickly, my iPod has never actually run out of power.
I believe that the 12 hour claim is over ambitious, but the power issue is not as important as the battery indicator on your Pod would have you believe!
