In a pregnancy test that was concluded negative, is it however, possible that there was miscarriage in the early weeks if the test states there were traces of chorionic gonadotropin - Probably  low levels, hence the test was concluded negative?

I do know that pregnancy tests are designed to detect even the lowest levels of HCG. Therefore if there were traces of it after a recent miscarriage I'm inclined to believe that the test would give you a false positive reading rather than a false negative. How do you know that the test detected any levels of HCG? In this case, if it's a more scientific test than the old drugstore disposables, maybe the test detected the low levels that are present at the very beginning but not quite enough to give a definite "yes". So to actually answer your question, yes it is possible.

The doctor didn't tell me at the time, but later I got access to the records when I worked temporarily for another Surgery and these records were transferred over there. It was then that I saw that HCG had been 'present'

That's pretty interesting then, was it your test? I'd be interested to know if it is possible to have traces like that. Try asking someone in that profession, they should be able to give you a more detailed answer. -Cheers to you!
