Do you believe that dreams are intrinsically linked to a spiritual realm or just memory flashes and imagination?

Sometimes I dream of my parents who are both dead, and once or twice the dreams have been so vivid, and have seemed so real that I've woken up believing they were. I have heard it said that whilst we're asleep our soul travels to enable it to grow and gather wisdom, so perhaps it does. What do you think?
I think there is a connection between the spirit and our life experiences that is encountered while in a dream state.
I believe the spirit body jolts from the physical and is able to roam freely. There is often no relation to place, person/s, experiences or time but I am sure there are messages to unfold within the dreams(sometimes).
I have had long conversations with people while dreaming yet I've never seen them in the physical world but they seem so real. Maybe the energy within needs to be recharged just as the external body does.

I think it's the latter, I don't agree with Freuds analysis on dreams either.
If you dream about something and you learn or gain something from it all the better.
Different people have hugely different dreams (some say they can control what they do in their dreams, not me) my dreams are always based in reality (I'm never a spaceman or a Celtic warrior) although the faces of people I know are often completely different, I alawys wonder what dogs dream about. Babies too for that matter.

I believe mostly that dreams are related to sub-conscious experiences and events, usually it is something that has happened or that you have seen but only registered at a sub-conscious level, or generally something that is playing on your mind. Our own minds interpret these events and visions in our own way, although there is a great degree of belief that the human mind develops generic dream patterns for certain events and emotions, hence people constantly looking for the underlying meaning of dreams or a dream. Sometimes, the dreams are pure imagination and fantasy, perhaps dogs and babies dream in fantasy or memory realm, who knows.
There are also types of dreams which may be spiritually or ethereal, such as the ones where you experience a dj vu moment, and realise you have dreamt it in the past.
Its all in the mind you know.

Thanks 123 and Octavius,
I have read about certain individuals who claim to have the power to orchestrate their dreams. Is that similar to remote viewing conducted by the C.I.A?
I have never been anyone but myself in dreams but a recurring dream that amazes me is one of telekinesis powers.
The closest I have come to telekinesis in real life is my PC one morning decided to jump straight to the R&S page without me touching the mouse and other strange occurences that would be better told (or maybe not ) on another thread.
There are certain factors within the dreamscape that seem constant for most people, flying and falling are quite common I think.
I don't know about babies or dogs but that's worth more research (for me).
I think there is certainly more to dreaming than just recollections or a fantasy being played.
