Fabric to cover lampshade
2 Answers
We have inherited an old standard lamp which is fine. We want to replace the material used to cover the shade.
What material would be suitable for this. It would have to allow for some stretching to cover the frame and fit closely to achieve the right shape. It would also need to be strong and not tear easily. Help!

You can buy replacement shades at quite reasonable cost from lighting shops or just have a look in shops like John Lewis or M&S to save you having the shade made up specially. There are also companies who will make a bespoke shade to match your standard lamp and dcor.
any fabric will be ok. i have done this before.
cut the panels on the bias for guaranteed 'give' and do the same with the lining
wrap the metal frame in bias binding top and botom and stich panels to it, and also lining, then bias bind on inside the neaten
if you pleat the fabric too you will not need to join the panels - you can hide the joins in a pleat
dead easy - good luck!
