Nokia E61 wifi

Hi evewreyone,
I have a Nokia E61 smartphone and want use the wifi capability with my wireless belkin router at home to access the net. j have followed the manual to configure the settings but am now at a loss as to how I access the net without the phone automatically using my o2 contract account to mke the connection,thereby incurring data charges.
Can anyone help.

I've just done this with an N95, I don't know your phone but it did work with mine. An N95 shows the wireless network that you're connected to on the "desktop", doesn't yours?. Just thought, can you start your phone without a sim card in it? If you can, try web browsing without a sim card and see if it will access the network. If so at least you know your wifi settings are correct
