Last minute flight.

My partner is an american living in the uk. His family are in america and we have often discussed that as his mother is getting sicker, the day will come when he may have to return home asap when she passes. Any last minute or same day flight to the US seem expensive, and i was wondering if airlines give a special rate for something like a bereavement? and a partner travelling too?

The short answer to this is no.

Best to trawl around on the net, looking for the best priced deal available,

Bereavement fares are not unknown on US domestic flights but I've not heard of them existing in the UK. It would be worth trying a US airline though

If there is a special rate it will be a token discount - nothing like the cheap fares you get by booking in advance
