Why does an Ambulance

have the word 'Ambulance' written backwards on it's front so that I can see what typoe of vehicle it is when I look in my rear view mirror?

If I'm driving along and I hear a siren going "Meeee maaaaawwwww Meeeee maaaaawwww, wooooooooh woooooooooh wooooooooh" and see blue flashing lights in my mirror, I pull over when it's safe to do so and let it pass no matter what type of emergency vehicle it is.

there are some that panic if they think a police car is behind them with sirens so maybe thats the reason.

What about deaf people? What happens when they dont hear sirens?

4gs its so when the amulance drives infront of a shop window they can see the word ambulance. Thus preventing them from thinking they are in a car which could lead to them falling when exiting the vehicle.

Well I suppose It's for the same reason that a policeman in full uniform, has POLICE on his top left hand pocket, and all the way accross his back,

If not.....................

1) It is not law to pull over for an emergency vehicle to pass EXCEPT a police car indicating YOU to pull over individually.

2) Many emergency vehicles receive their emergency whilst on the road. Therefore you will be aware that an ambulance is behind you even in normal traffic. PRIOR PREPARATION PREVENTS A PI55 POOR PERFORMANCE.

3) The two tones and lights often fail. Therefore if the vehicle flashed its lights it may prompt you to pull over and let it pass if you recognise AMBULANCE.

That's for that minter, it was a rhetorical question, sort of tongue in cheek, a witty observation if you will, something to start the day off with a chuckle.

Anyway, as I said, thank you for your valuable input, much appreciated, however, I have never ever heard of the lights failing on any emergency services vehicle, if that had happened to any of my Ambulance drivers, I would have charged them for failing to carry out what's called in the Military a 'First Parade Service'
