the original phrase was as lovejoy says, I think. I don't know who first switched the words but it was more likely a comedian than a leftie, they're the ones who make jokes out of slogans like that

The Wikipedia link that Lovejoy quotes in answer one attributes it to Bertrand Russell.

I knew nothing about him, but the same link talks about him tearing up his Labour Party membership card at one point, which would seem to justify helpmetoo's description of lefty.

Lovejoy therefore ends up looking a bit foolish.
