My cats get these frequently because they are long haired, but short haired cats can get them too, especially if they groom a lot. I have often found that giving them a few licks of butter from my finger helps them get it up. If this has never happened before, then you might be wise to see the vet, just in case it is something more serious. If it is a hairball then the next time it happens you wont be so worried. dont cats make a drama out of a crisis when they are being sick? Enough to make you laugh if you didn't feel so sorry for them. Please let us know what happens
Mine was trying to chuck up the other day, and I was frantically trying to usher him onto the laminate flooring for hygiene.
I thought I was successfull, except for a little bit.
Then he darted past me into the middle of the rug and chucked up again.
He was then under the weather all day, but right as rain in the evening.
Perhaps the feline version of the winter vomitting bug is doing the rounds.

Do you have more than one cat? Whilst I'd agree that the most likely cause is probably hairballs, for which you can buy special food, there's also the possibility that the cat is bolting its food. One of mine used to do this when other cats or unfamiliar people were around, she'd rush her food down her so fast that she'd ending up regurgitating it all back up shortly after.
