We were going to buy one ,and a lot of these sofas are from China and not a good buy . So we went to the local shop and bought a made in England ( had to wait 10 weeks ) got a discount , free delivery and not any more expensive than the stuff on the tv . Sorry meant to say we bought leather , which is soft not like the ones on the tv , also when you go to DFS ,a million people have sat in them so they will seem comfy .
Hi Mary
I have two brown soft leather sofas and they are lovely and comfy, I have a 3 and a 2 but use throws on them cos of max and Bingo the dogs, they definatelty like them, and to be honest i am surprised at how tough the leather is, the dogs have never once scratched it or marked it.
I am always amazed at the number of sofa ads on tv at new year, these places have sales all year round but this time of year its daft, many many many years ago, when I sold furniture in the House of Fraser, september - october were the busiest ordering times for guarateeed xmas delivery
No I havent bought from any of the adverts -mind you they do a good pitch in luring you in -most of the sales stuff is in orange or lime or some other colour which is eqaually distateful

I had leather when the kids were young -fantastic -just sponged down their wee paw prints -however I stuck to it in the summer and it was freezing in the winter.

We went to Sterling (think) for our suite -its dark blue and that soft almost faux suede effect -its so comfy everyone comes in and just sinks into it.Even on the mad occasions the Polis have had to visit (not for me or H -I have to add ) they just lounge back and they even say how comfy it is -I have to shovel them out the door -lol

Its here for the duration cos it wasnt cheap and also i'm not of those have to keep up with trend types - cost a bloody fortune as well and its very true what they say -you only get what you pay for-and I am a great believer in that.
Hi Mary, I was wondering how many more sofa companies could advertise! It's crazy, isn't it? How often must people buy a new sofa to keep all these places in business?

We have never had a brand new sofa. They are expensive, and the dog used to chew them to bits! When we move, we might consider a new one, but if I see one second-hand that I like, I haven't a problem with that!

I prefer fabric, and like it to be a plain colour, no floral velour or anything (like my current armchairs, both covered with throws and cushions to hide the visual hell!). So our next one will maybe be that kind of cordy fabric, in a deep red.

I have had a couple of friends use DFS, and they've not had great experiences. Aftercare was rubbish, and sofas poor quality.

My dad spent LOADS on a Parker Knoll suite (3 seat, 2 seat and recliner) about 10 years ago. Very floral :S It's lasted though (my dad keeps things 'til the bitter end!) and is very good quality.

We have marks and spencers leather chesterfield suite in lounge and small dark brown one bought from Harveys in other room, the chesterfiels is about 10 years old now and just gets better and better, friends had stuff from dfs and it wasn't brillliant quality, the one we had from harveys is I am surprised to say very good quality and really comfortable, but if it would take an every day pounding if you have kiddies I wouldn't like to say. lets face it you only get what you pay for if you buy a leather 3 piece suite for say 600 how long will it last?.
My ex and I bought a made to order sofa about ten years ago...after 5 it was still hard as a rock-lol! He has it now.....I have a second hand one with removable covers, and down -filled cushions. Loverly!! ...just the way I like it-soft and squishy..I just sink into it!!
When we bought our last sofa, leather, we wnt round all the furniture stores.
The larger stores who advertise, all the Sales people told us the same.
Some of the cheaper suites are faux leather at the back or sides.
Ended up buying our suite from Gillies.
Very expensive but still looks new and is very comfy.
