The Wine Library is excellent - fantastic collection of wines but (I remember) limited on the food - just bits of pate and cheese. Don''t think you can book a table, either - because they had mainly standing spaces last time I was there... but that was some years ago.

I certainly wouldn't put the Wine Library under the heading of a pub/club though - a great place for a couple of people (even a 'couple'), maybe 4-6 max to go to experiment with wine and only if they have already written off the afternoon.

Seeing as all the places you've suggested are in the insurance area of the CIty, though, writing off an afternoon should come second nature?

If you want some other reviews, have a look at SquareMeal.com or fancyapint.com

Hope this helps.
You going up in the world or something China?
Whatever happened to 6 large glasses of wine down your local 'Spoons, and then a kebab on the way home?
I'm going to throw my 3 cents in and say don't bother with any. I've abandoned all pubs/clubs/bars in the city as unbearably full of tw*ts.
There are a couple of reviews of the Wine Library here.

None of the others feature, but the site is mainly aimed at cask beer aficionados.

Sigh... Less going up in the world and more being dragged out of my comfort zone I'm afraid, I'd much rather stick with Nick's idea!

I have to chose between some of these places as somwhere I'd like to go but I think the wine library already sounds like somwhere I'd be kicked out from within seconds.

Plus if it's near insurance area as Bigmac says then it's bound to be full of merchant bankers right? :c(
Only in rhyming slang, China Doll - the area really does crawl with insurance people.

A place in the same area that might meet your normal requirements is The Minories, a pub that's the closest thing to Bigg Market in Newcastle that I've seen in London ....
China, get your bum over to the "Mayflower" near rotherhithe staion, thats a great pub nevr mind all the poncy places up town. or get down to The Thomas a beckett in the old kent road ahve a great laugh in there.

Ha! I'm sold already Mac... alas, the only say I have in the evening is venue, everything else is subject to the whim of my social climbing friend.

MInd you... I like the sound of Minister Court on Mincing Lane, or did I read that wrong? ;0)
