Digital cameras-rechargable batteries

I have bought some rechargable batteries for my digi-camera. It says in the instructions to fully charge and then run out a few times to build up power. I have had them on charge for 22 hours, but they are still 'low'. How long do I need to charge them for, and can I overcharge them. Thank you.

How do you know they are still low?

What make are they?

They should be charged up in 22 hours (14-16 usually does it).

Are they Ni-Cads, NiMH, or Lithium?

Make sure your charger can charge the type of batteries you've bought. Not all chargers work with all battery types.

Thanks for both of your answers, I will answer both questions on this thread

The batteries are 'Boots' own brand - Ni-MH

The Charger (a bit old now) is 'Uniross Ni-Cd charger'

Then stop using that charger right away!!!

It could cause the batteries to catch fire.

I'd also chuck the batteries away, to be safe.

You need a Ni-MH battery charger.
