my honda concerto 1.5 is displaying the check engine light after a couple of minutes driving. there is no difference to the car's performance, although the exhaust appears to be blowing slightly. could the cat converter being faulty cause this as the light is for the emission control system.?

It could be but if there is a leak somewhere else in the system that could also cause it

could be the lamba sensor as well,get it looked at.
