I watched this programme last night , it was funny and sad at the same time , he is still entertaining after all that time but age has taken him over , what a star , Its just so sad that any family has to make that decision which has fortunately worked out the best for him , he has a captive audience everyday to perform to .., long may he continue .....

Basically thunderchild, Old Norm was being looked after by his former agent, who herself was nearly 70 at his home on the Isle of Man. She needed restbite and he was passed on to family members in Sussex.

Although he still has most of his marbles and is fairly active he is slightly cantankarous and a little hard work (for example he refuses to bathe).

He family were jiggled aabout and was decided to place him in a care home for the elderly.

One "problem" with Norm is he has to play up to an audience. So even a drive to the shops there were autographs, photos, jokes etc.

In the rest home, he has a captive audience 24/7, which he craves.

He came accross a very dignified and polite old gent however, with a glint in his eyes for the ladies!!!

A credit to the British film industry.

Fantastic answer Bewlay , Could not have put it better myself, I went to bed happy that he is in the best place for him , It was a funny programme though , having a family member who is also suffering from onset of dementia you have to laff because he really is still entertaining even at his age, I thought it was a very emotional end programme to his work life and captivated Normans professionalism and let everyone know what stage of life he is at , if thats the very last programme made about him it was very dignified and a fitting memory to a Great British actor .

thanks for that answer cos i was reading in a sunday paper last year that he was suffering and his family had been down like vultures,he was allowed none of his show biz friends etc and wanted to go home.i felt very sorry for him.you put it in contect now thanks.although he not my kind of humour he was a game old man

I didn't watch this (didn't even know it was on) but my bloke would have been very interested in it. Hopefully they'll repeat it soon.

He worked with Norm when the old stager did an appearance here a couple of years ago. Offstage, Norm appears as a shambling, somewhat confused old man (but still a gentleman). Everyone wondered how he could ever go out there and get the job done in that state. But then he did. He just transformed as he walked onto the stage, a bit like that drunken eurovision presenter in an episode of Father Ted. He even tried a couple of his trademark prat-falls as he did so. I guess that's true professionalism.

I hope they repeat it too even though I watched it. I was crying my eyes out at the end.
