muslin bags

When making marmalade we have noticed on a couple of occasions that the bags we make out of muslin cloth have frayed and that small threads of the cloth are present in the marmalade.Has anyone else experienced this problem and can give us some hints to rectify the problem .

I don't make marmalade but when I've been making other things and the recipe says use muslin, I always use a new, boiled J cloth.
