The government is culpable because it has wasted billions of pounds of taxpayers cash on proping it up. The government is getting stick because it has wasted those billions on top of all the other countless billions it has frittered away in 10 years in power. Socialist governments tax and spend, that is what Gordy has done on an unpresidented scale since this revolting shower were elected. They are being hammered now because after all these years of taxation we have nothing to show for it and are now throwing good money after bad. That is the fault of a socialist government.
A labour government nationalising an institution?? No way!! whatever next?
A Champaign Socialist PM who used to campaign for nuclear disarmament but now wants to spend billions on a nuclear deterant we can't use unless America lets us?
Next thing you'll be telling me that no-one wares kipper ties or listens to Abba records,

brionon, all i am doing is stating fact. What have the Tories got to do with your question? Why try and draw attention away from this governments disastrous handling of our finances? They are reaping what they have sown, and the proverbial is really going to hit the fan in the coming years. In spite of taxing us to death over the last decade the coffers are empty just when a bit of Gordy's famed "prudence " could have tied us over the lean years. Of course this prudence is a New Labour deception, they have frittered all the money and will continue to do so. Instead of trying to divert attention away from this grotesque finacial mismanagement of our money by blaming the Tories try looking at the facts. Or are you one of the people who have been fooled into thinking that Gordy is a finacial genius? You will be telling us next that the fairies at the bottom of your garden are good for the environment next. Wake up.
>the UK is still afloat and thriving.
Ha Ha.
Thanks to New Labour our national debt is at its highest EVER.
It is estimated to be over 500 BILLION. How can any country be thriving when it is 500 BILLION in debt.
We can PRETEND we are thriving, like the man driving round in a Rolls Royce while the bailiffs re-posses his house.

Whenever this Government is criticised on this site there will always, always be somebody who boringly bangs on about the last Tory Government - the Tories haven't been in power for over ten years so move on.
The fact of the matter is that this Government has far out-sleazed the Tories, they are solely respnosible for the yob culture we now have because of this governments ineffectual bail conditions, early release of prisoners, 24 hour drinking, downgrading of cannabis, a lack of police on the streets and an obsession with the human rights of criminals to the detriment of decent society (nicked from Platell).
We are over-taxed, there is far too much public spending and we have far too much personal debt. .
Brown, when the 'prudent' chancellor (in fact he was anything but) stole many peoples retirement, and sold our gold reserves when the price of gold was at it lowest for years.
Socialism, which may be nice and cuddly in theory, doesn't work in practice.
This government is by far the worse government since the last Labour government.
We need a change, and had that pratt had the balls to call an election last November, we would now have a Tory government who would now be trying to get this country on a stable footing again.
This lot are an utter shower.

Cast your minds back to the queues outside of Northern Rock branches - people getting their money out because of a lack of confidence.
Now imagine it spreading to the other banks and building societies - a mass withdrawal while Gordon Brown sits on his hands.
Is that what you would have had him do? - fiddle whilst the banking system collapsed.
Do you remember recessions? flip_flop? They were those things we used to have under the Tories.
Cameron seems awfully mouthy about Northern Rock now the decision has been made - I don't recall him shouting "Let it crash" at the time.
Maybe he was a bit busy at a photo opportunity
