following on from mrs.overalls beans from Lidls Why is Lidls portrayed usually in adverts as being inferior There is an advert where the guest arrives with champagne disquised in a gift bag but the host recognises it as a bag from Lidls. or am I reading too much into this.
I know people who shop in Lidls but don't let on.

erm.....they weren't MY beans, I only answered the question about them.
I don't understand why you need to feel shame shopping there?

Their fruit and veg is far better than tesco's and asda's anyway.

Me personally, in lean months shop in Netto's, now that really is a scuzzy place!

Sorry mrs overall bean feeling guilty about that comment.
The only problem I have with Lidl is the infernal queues ! Local traders stocking up having filled 3 trolleys. Catch it when it's quiet and it's great. I am told that the so-called cheapo brands unfamiliar to us are brand leaders on the continent.
No worries, MaryT.
Boo, Netto is scraping the barrel!
Aldi & Lidl always seem clean & bright but Netto is dingy, staffed by extras from Night of the Living Dead and I hate having to scrabble through all those cages.
I love Lidl! Although the one local to my workplace is full of local 'characters' but the staff are friendly if not overworked. I love the mad combination of stuff they have down the centre aisles - one week golfing gear, next week DIY stuff.

Now they do specialist food - found some soya milk there, and they have Fairtrade stuff. Their cheese selection is amazing too.

We had a Lidl Christmas - leg of lamb, venison stew, pheasant, stuffed chillis, smoked salmon, plonk fizzy, chocolates - it was fab!
I do shop at Lidl, but I've found their veg doesn't keep as long as Tesco's. While some of their stuff is comparable, some just isn't. Their tinned chopped tomatoes aren't worth buying, as they are surprisingly tasteless, for example.
If you know anything about food then it's easy to determine if you're buying rubbish or not. On the whole Lidl is very good, as is Aldi. They suffer from an unbelievable snob culture in the UK where folk think they need to buy from the major chains.
