slag or not?

A guy was talking in the bar other night.He was querying the fact that women are called slags but blokes arent.His thoughts were that it wasnt right.I quite agree with him.He then said something that made me think.He said women are only called slags if people find out, so really theyre not slags at all ,they just pick people who are very indiscreet.So what do you think was he right or wrong ?
