Are you saying you were charged with murder which went down to occassioning bodily harm? If so, I assume her son died?
Either way, if your ex girlfriend told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it? No, you wouldn't. So why slap her son just because someone told you to. Anyway, back to the actual question.
I realise that you may have made a big mistake and could have changed in the 11 years since, but if my daughters boyfriend had been accused of murder or had been done for hitting children and I was a foster carer, then I would want to know. You gave away your rights when you got done for hitting the other child. If you truly are a reformed character and her mum likes and trusts you, you should have no problems.

if you mean you have to have a disclosure done, then if it involves children it will be an enhanced disclosure and any offences that you have been convicted for will show up on it. You have to come clean about it, especially where the offences involve children as this will effect your partner's mother if she is fostering children. you really should tell her as the effects could be extremely serious for her as a foster parent if you don't.
Not only have you scared and hurt a child but may go on to deprive foster kids of a good home as you will be classed as unsuitable to be around vulnerable children. I hope you are ashamed of yourself.
And by the way I wouldnt go around asking nice people for advice in forums about ABUSING a child. Yes thats what it is.
