This was brought about through the French inventing an XJR race series for them. The SP cost around another 500 on top of the standard XJR. It was basically the same as the standard version with a nice paint job and a new seat. The most significant and noticeable addition was of course the set of Ohlins rear shocks and the Gold side plates on the chain. Colours available - Red and Metallic Purplish Blue.
2001 - Saw no significant changes in either the standard or SP version, The standard version was available in either Black or Metallic Silver. The SP version was available in either Yellow or Metallic Purplish Blue.
2002 - Saw the end of the Standard and SP models in favour of one model. The 2002 model has Ohlins shocks but no SP seat, gold chain or chromed horns. Larger 37mm carbs, changes to wheels and swingarm, one piece yamaha brake calipers allround, different paint jobs and an overall saving of 6kg's in weight. Available in , Blue, Black, Yellow and Silver.
