My granddaughter has chicken pox and while im not worried about catching them myself (Ive already had them) can I still spread the virus around after being around her?
aww the poor mite, I've heard a few people say they have had them more than once angel. I've also heard people say they have shingles more than once too.
I still went to work when both mine had them and wasnt told otherwise -daresay there is a slight risk that you could carry it one but then the same could happen with a total stranger in a shop.
Remember years ago they used to have 'chickenpox parties' so the kids would get them and then that would it out the way before they startd school.
Like angels says if you are succeptable then you may catch them twice but the second dose is lighter.
hi drissy, lol at the 'chickenpox parties', we were the same round here. Your memory is intact btw, I dont think I mentioned it on friday, but Im laughing at the 'try' to tell you bit haha
You should be worried about catching it yourself pixi. I had chicken pox as a child but caught it for a second time off my son. I went to the doctors and said that it couldn't be chicken pox as I'd already had that. She told me yes, you can catch it more than once, and yes, it was chicken pox. I was really poorly with it. I think all 'childhood' diseases are worse when you catch them as an adult. Also appparently I was really lucky not to get shingles.
hi spudqueen, long time no see, hope you are okay :) aww i really hope I dont get it again, I remember having it when I was 9 and it was horrible :( Saying that I think I would rather have it again than get shingles, Ive known a couple of people had that and its nasty :(
Pixi, it is possible to get chicken pox more than once. It is usually only if you had a mild case the first time round and didn't build up enough antibodies to prevent another attack by the (Varicella Zoster) virus.
However, once you have had chicken pox, the virus lays dormant in your nerve tissues. You can then develop shingles (a variation of the same virus) if you come into contact with someone with chicken pox.
Chickenpox is spread via droplets of saliva and nasal mucus by the sneezing and coughing of an infected person.
I'm sure you will be fine but I thought you should be aware of the possibility of developing shingles after being in contact with your granddaughter.
Chicken pox is a horrible thing to have and I hope she is feeling better real soon.
thanks for that Aprilis :) Hopefully I wont get it again (or shingles) I was more worried that I could pass the virus onto someone after being in contact with babypixi, the person is pretty ill at the minute and chickenpox/shingles would be the last thing they needed :(
babypixi is much better, thanks :) The spots all seem to have scabbed over and no new ones for a couple of days :)
