Responsibilities of landlords
As a tenant of a block of four flats, one of which was rented out to a tenant who had a cat, I found myself in a difficult position when he was taken back into custody by the police on a Sunday. On Tuesday I informed the landlord that the cat was in the flat alone and abandoned. I was assured they would take action and inform the tenant's mother the cat needed collection. I found out on Friday, today, that they had done nothing and the cat was distressed and starving. The landlord said it was not their responsibility, but the tenant's. Can anybody tell me whether they could absolve themselves of such a responsibility or whether they had a legal duty to attend to the cat. (The cat is now rescued).
