internet explorer freezing.
7 Answers
My internet explorer keeps freezing, Its happening all the time. The picture fades in colour and i cant click on anything and then it says it isnt responding, eventually i get the option to either close the programme, wait for it to respond or re start the programme. I always re start and then its fine, until the next time which could be 5 mins or 20 mins time.
Does anyone know what is causing this or how to combat the problem. Its very irritating because its happening so often.

However, the majority of the 'regulars' here on AB's Technology section wouldn't touch Internet Explorer with a bargepole. We all use Firefox (which is faster, more secure and, most important in view of your current problems, more stable):

Thanks for the reply.
Go to the link above. Click 'Download Now - Free'. Select somewhere suitable to put the download. (If in doubt, just put it on your desktop).
Once you've got the download, double-click on the file icon to run the set-up program. It's all self explanatory. You'll be asked if you want to import your 'favorites' from Internet Explorer. (You'll probably want to select 'Yes').
Once you've installed Firefox, you can run it just like any other program. (i.e. you can go to Start >Programs or double-click on a shortcut). You'll then see a screen which is fairly similar to Internet Explorer. Assuming that you're online of course, you can now browse the web with your new browser. Pages will load faster and it shouldn't keep crashing like IE.
If you want to select a particular home page, just go to that page and then go to Tools > Options > Main and click 'Use current page'.
Firefox is a very intuitive program (and it's got a good help file) but, if you get stuck, just post on AB again. There are plenty of people who know about Firefox.
Happy browsing!

sounds as if possibly your internet is dropping .... or your hdd is thrashing - maybe because it's getting full - or maybe the temp folder needs emptying

sometimes when my virus scanner kicks in ie does the same.
(and sometimes it just does it out of badness!)
If you want to try firefox - before you commit
d/l a self contained version from
http://portableapps.com/suite
and see what you think of it
(personally I don't like it)
