We do have sky but we dont have the sky upgrade (my husband is abit off a miser)I am looking to buy a compatable dvd recorder but i do think i will need hd for the future, what do you think,thanks.P.S im buying these without my husbands consent this is why i am having to ask other peoples advice.Sometimes we women have to do these things
I meant to add - until the last 15 years or so, televisions were unreliable things that needed expensive repair or replacement every few years.
This is no longer the case and crt televisions can keep going for many years. Not good for the manufacturer, so they are tempting you to throw out your good 'old fashioned' tv and buy a stylish flat one.
As I already said, you will be losing out on picture quality, if your current tv is in good working order.
A 20 box will make it digital if you don't have sky or cable.

I'm not certain what the arguments are here
a 37" telly will display a picture on a 37" screen ....
(Got to say 37" is BIG .... first job .... go to currys or comet and look at them!!!!!!)
LG are getting rave reviews but the "old faithfuls" Toshiba, Hitachi etc aren't far behind.
again when you are seeing just how big 37" is .... look at the pictures .... see which looks best to you!
personally ... when our 32 (37 was toooooo big!!!) arrived I was disappointed .... the picture was too contrasty .....
over a couple of days we (I) fiddled with the settings ... and now ..... It would be difficult to go back.
HD Blu-ray .... there is another argument .... "standard"
while the biggies are arguing over formats (the TV mfrs all went for HD!!!!!) - no-one is actually using the format seriously.
Sky have something like 5 HD channels - so it's still pretty .... pretty much a waste of money!!
and in reality ... the take up on any of the formats is so low.... - unless there is a massive price drop ... it's not going to happen ... look at DAB radio!!!!!
LCD tellys have been arround for a while now .... there has been quite a drop in price now (which tends to mean it's caught on and become mainstream)
If you just want a big picture .... go ahead .... people who wait ... and wait.... and wait for an ideal generally miss out.
and Standard resolution (to me) is still better in 32" LCD than in 22" CRT!
