stolen hedge

My neighbour removed our boundary hedge behind my back and against my wishes. He now has matching fencing on eitherside of his front garden and I have a high privet on one side and a low fence on the other. What are my rights?

If the hedge was on your neighbours land, you have no rights at all - he can anything he likes with it.

He didn't even have to replace it with a fence, he could have left it with no boundary.

There is nothing to stop you planting a new hedge on your side of the new fence.

The hedge was a boundary owned by us both jointly. I don't have the time, energy or funds to replace it.

If it was Jointly owned as you say, then he did NOT have the right to just remove it willy nilly. If he wanted a fence, what he should have done is erect the fence within his boundary and left the hedge.
