70's Sci fi / apocalyptic TV Series

I wonder if anyone can help me identify a TV series / show on in th uk in the 70's. All I can remember is that the machines took over the country, and washing machines and cars etc had minds of their own.  It was all very real though a little like Threads in its potrayal of the devastation... Oh... and it was set to some Jean Michele Jar type sound track thing.  I know it sounds more like Monty Python, but it terified the pants out of me as a young'un and in the good tradition of responsible parenting would like to find a copy for my kids.

Are you sure you're not thinking of "The Changes", based on Peter Dickinson's series of novels? Everybody went mad and smashed up the machines, though.

I remember a series about animals catching rabies and going wild, which scared the bejesus outta me!

I think because it was a series and was set in the UK that made it far too realistic for the youngsters of the day.

Yes it sounds like the changes, were you were condemned as a witch if you were caught in a car or doing anything modern, the book was good too
