Thanks sarumite.

The penny has just dropped on why forgers make notes (I was thinking blacksmiths etc), but I was struggling with UD representing town - I suppose this is "urban district"?
Sorry I inadvertantly showed 13d Upend instead of 25a!

I also took UD (town) to represent Urban District.
