My mother's roommate recently passed away, and on his death-bed he made her get someone to witness a new will naming my mother as the beneficiary of all of his assets. The thing is, my mother has known him for about 7 years, and was under the impression that he was living off of Social Security, but he told her that he had a lot of money in another state and that there was someone in charge of it, that he had been saving it all his life since his parents died and he had sold all of their land. How does my mom find out if there really is money? He had no living relatives, and she never knew of him having contact with any old friends.

Oh, and we have a 'mum' not a 'mom' (but both are just as loveable!)Unfortunately no American posts on here under Law. You may find an American site more useful
