we are going on holiday and would like to leave our heating on low just in case there is a cold snap while we are away any ideas what to leave the room stat set on

Someone I know lives in another country for much of the year, she leaves the heating set at about 15 degrees in the Winter, I pop in from time to time to check on things and have never had to change it, her house is quite big.

My mother used to do this when she went away during the winter months � the only benefit I could see, was that the burglars would be nice & warm while ransacking the house.

Most combi boilers have a frost thermostat which cuts in at around 4�C, to ensure that the central heating system does not freeze over.

Hymie is correct, but if you are not sure you're boiler has an automatic frost protection then leave the thermostat set to 5�C. At this temperature the heating will only come on if danger of freezing is likley, yet it will not fire the boiler just because it is a bit chilly and heat an empty home for the sake off it and wast energy and money.
