car allowance, how does it work?

i am going for a job which has a car allowance on top of the salary. i know that this is in place of a company car, but how is this allowance paid? is it monthly alongside salary?

It is normally paid as an additional amount with your monthly salary and will have Tax and NI deducted.

You'll also probably find the allowance won't be taken into account in working out overtime pay and won't be pensionable.
