Does anyone take Ace inhibitor B.P. tablets called Trandolapril. Since taking them 12 months ago my partner has suffered a continual dry cough. The doctor has done an X-ray but proved negative. I have looked up side effects for this tablet and all say it could result in a cough. What action should I take now?

ACE inhibitors cause a dry cough - you need to go to your gp and ask to be changed to an ACE II (two) inhibitor like losartan

I have been on ACE inhibitors for 14 years and was initially on Captopril. After about 2 years of taking it I developed the same dry cough!! they simply changed the kind of ACE inhibitor i was on and i dont have it anymore. It is quite a common symptom so dont worry!! Im now taking Enarlapril. Hope this helps!!

I cant beleive your doctor didnt pick up on it being the drug!! My doctor knew as soon as i told him about the cough!!

i too suffer from this dry cough side effect (i take ramipril), which has got worse the higher the dose i take. i'm just about at the point of going back to my gp to ask for a different one but have been reluctant to as my blood pressure is spot-on now and i wonder if a change of medication will alter it adversly - does anyone know?

No wonder doctors can't get it right. It seems other ACE inhibitors cause a cough besides the one being taken. I have tried to get my partner to see the GP to change it but like Etherdron above feels reluctant to make a change especially as the tablets and doses taken in the past have been ineffective to cure the BP. At least the BP has stabilised with the current tablets.

I had the cough too and the doctor took me off those tablets and put me on Atenolol. No side effects at all.

Yes my partner was on Atenonol once but I believe these new ACE inhibitors are more powerful.
