In this approach, the nucleic acids (DNA or RNA) are directly spotted onto the filters, and not subjected to electrophoresis. The hybridization procedure is the same as in original blotting techniques.
Dot blotting technique is particularly useful in obtaining quantitative data for the evaluation of gene expression.
